Smarter fertiliser resupply across remote farms

A major supplier automated tank-level monitoring across WA farms- improving demand forecasting, reducing lead times, and increasing customer satisfaction.

The Need

A major Western Australian chemical supplier, servicing over 1,500 farms, faced challenges in managing fertiliser supply and demand. Their process relied on farmers placing orders manually, which made it hard to predict usage, balance inventory, and deliver efficiently across such a vast region.

Delays and delivery inefficiencies created friction in the supply chain. The supplier needed a smarter way to automate replenishment, reduce lead times, and forecast demand more accurately – especially in remote, hard-to-reach farm locations.

The Solution

The supplier deployed 250 Captis Multi devices across farms with 20–50 kL fertiliser tanks. Connected to hydrostatic pressure sensors, each device continuously monitored tank levels and triggered alerts when resupply was needed.

Why it worked:

  • IP68-rated hardware withstands extreme weather and field conditions

  • NB-IoT connectivity ensures reliable communication in isolated areas

  • Battery-powered, low-maintenance system ideal for agriculture

  • Automated alerts triggered timely replenishment, improving logistics

  • Data analytics supported accurate demand forecasting across regions

The result? A shift from reactive to proactive resupply – improving delivery efficiency, streamlining internal operations, reducing working capital and delivering better service to farmers. The success of this rollout has led the supplier to expand Captis deployment across other divisions for broader supply chain optimisation.
